Aerdryk operates as the solo project of C.V.B., a musician heavily involved with acts like Wolvennest, Cult Of Erinyes, LVTHN, and Erbeet Azhak. Back in 2022, the debut offering brought atmospheric 90s black metal heavily loaded with ethereal keyboards and melodic basslines. Four years pass, and Aerdryk returns via Amor Fati Productions. The new full-length is named "Onzuiver", translating to impure in Flemish. The melancholy of the past remains present, only the overall sound has severely hardened to reflect a decaying, miserable world.
Aerdryk weaponizes the Devil as a metaphor against Christianity on this second full-length. The entire album exhales sulfur, adopting a stance of total defiance. The music acts as an ideological tool advocating for complete mental liberation from religious dogma. Black metal originally existed to smash a clenched fist straight into Christian morality, and "Onzuiver" explicitly reclaims that specific mission. The aggression is dialed up, stripping away softer elements for a much harsher attack.
The vocal delivery on "Onzuiver" expands beyond previous boundaries, channeling pure hatred. C.V.B. utilizes a varied approach to spit extreme disdain across the playtime. Beneath the heavy distortion, a subtle folk influence hides within the inspired riffing. The guitars drive a frenetic sonic pilgrimage, matching the Satanic themes with fast, aggressive guitar work. Tracks such as "Modder En Bloed" and "Een Wereld Om Te Bederven" unleash pure fury, keeping the speed relentless and the riffs blistering.
This full-length gets a solid rating because it delivers a highly effective black metal assault. The music provides an engaging barrage of anti-religious hatred. Some sections drag slightly, keeping the final tally from reaching a perfect mark. The riffs remain excellent throughout, and the drums heavily batter the skull into submission. Aerdryk successfully marries intense speed with dark atmosphere, resulting in a highly vicious musical attack.
"Onzuiver" serves as a violent second chapter for Aerdryk. The listener gets drawn into a deeply Satanic atmosphere full of inspired guitars and varied screams. The music provides a satisfying dose of extreme metal. The hatred toward Christian morality radiates brightly through every second of the playtime. The album succeeds entirely in its mission to violently reject religious submission.
