Primal Warfare originated in Portugal in 2020. They arrived on the scene to play thrash metal with massive impact and serious melody. The band took their live assault to venues including R.C.A. Club in Lisbon and Hollywood Spot in Almada early on. The band put together their debut EP, "After The Flames", alongside Gabriel Antunes, and now the music is out through Firecum Records.
The music on "After The Flames" balances intense riffing with memorable melodic sections. Joana Pais delivers vocals dealing with themes of resilience, conflict, and moving forward. Diogo Silva and Filipe Cavalcanti provide wicked guitar work, driving the songs ahead with total aggression. Fernando Narciso on bass and Oles Pisarenko on drums build a rhythmic foundation that supports the melodies and keeps the mosh pit moving.
Firing up "After The Flames" delivers a massive thrash attack. The guitar tone rips, giving fans of Power Trip, Slayer, and Sepultura serious reasons to headbang. The songwriting throws strong melodies right alongside the fast tempos, resulting in tracks that get stuck in your brain. The audio mix gives all the instruments enough space to register loudly.
As a metalhead, listening to this is a quality time. Joana Pais spits out lyrics about overcoming obstacles and staring down war, sounding totally pissed off. The drumming from Oles Pisarenko keeps a fast, relentless pace almost the whole time. Sometimes the sheer speed blurs the riffs slightly, making a few transitions slightly abrupt. Overall, the execution remains totally relentless and totally destructive.
This five-song attack proves Primal Warfare brings serious energy to the underground scene. "After The Flames" offers a massive dose of thrash metal straight from Portugal. The band delivers their music with total aggression and precision. They bring heavy riffs, serious speed, and extreme volume to completely wreck your neck.
Score: 7.5
