The German trio Arroganz has been stomping through the underground since 2008, starting out as a raw, blast-heavy entity before evolving into a much darker beast. Hailing from Torgau, Berlin, and Nuremberg, these maniacs have spent fifteen years sharpening their blades, moving from the frantic D-beats of their debut "Dark And Deathless" to the more atmospheric crushing weight found on 2024’s "Quintessenz". Now, after a lineup shift, they’ve returned to claim their territory with a sound that refuses to play nice with anyone.
If you’re looking for a record that treats you with respect, "Death Doom Punks" isn't it. This seventh full-length is a total assault that lives up to its name by blending old school death metal filth with a total punk attitude. The production handled by Timo Rotten is thick and heavy, letting the bass throb like a bruised artery while the drums beat your skull into a pulp. It’s a loud, arrogant statement that proves Arroganz has zero interest in following trends or playing it safe for the masses.
The songwriting here is lethal and shows a band that has mastered the art of the riff. The trio stacks heavy, suffocating layers of guitar work over a rhythm section that sounds like a wrecking ball hitting a cathedral. The vocals are deep, guttural bellows that match the bleakness of the lyrics, which tear apart social lies and philosophical comforts. It’s a grim experience that reflects a world falling to pieces, and Arroganz provides the perfect soundtrack for the collapse.
What stands out most is how the band balances the faster, aggressive sections with those slow, suffocating doom passages. They’ve managed to take their influences and turn them into something that sounds completely like their own brand of violence. There is no filler or unnecessary garbage here; it’s just thirty-eight minutes of pure, authentic hatred. They won’t care if you hate it, which is exactly why this record works so well, it’s honest, it’s loud, and it’s completely uncompromising.
"Death Doom Punks" is a mandatory listen for anyone who wants their metal served with a side of total defiance. Arroganz has delivered a record that is mature in its execution but still has enough venom to melt your face off. If you can’t handle the darkness and the raw energy they’re throwing down, then just get out of the way. This is a declaration of war against a fake world, and the trio has won.
