Emerging from the small but metal-rich town of Bollnäs, Savage Mania isn't some manufactured project, it’s the result of drunken nights and a shared obsession with the era when thrash was a lethal weapon. Formed in 2019, this quartet has deep roots in the scene; we’re talking literal bloodlines here, with members being the offspring of Swedish legends from Morgana Lefay and Tad Morose. After self-releasing their debut and building a reputation for pure mayhem in the Swedish underground, they’ve finally hooked up with Fireflash Records to give their debut the global violence it deserves.
Forget the over-produced garbage coming out of big studios these days. Savage Mania recorded "Demonic Assault" in a damn skateboard hall in just two days, and you can hear every bit of that frantic energy. This isn't polite music. It’s a violent tribute to the 1985 German scene, channeling the spirit of early Kreator and Sodom. They aren't interested in being the next prog-metal geniuses; they just want to wreck your neck with speed and raw power.
The tracks on this record are a total assault on the senses. "Undead Rebirth" and "The Face Of Death" kick things off with a relentless pace that makes you want to smash everything in sight. The guitars are biting, and the vocals have this aggressive edge that sounds like someone who has spent way too many nights screaming in a basement. It’s fast, it’s angry, and it’s got that specific Teutonic stench that most modern bands are too scared to touch.
Even though these guys are young, they play with a level of aggression that puts older bands to shame. "Master Of Hell" and "Storm Of Steel" are absolute rippers that refuse to let up. You can tell they grew up on a diet of Slayer and Whiplash. There’s no filler here, just a constant stream of riffs designed to cause a riot. It’s refreshing to hear a band that actually sounds like they’re having a blast while playing music this intense.
By the time you hit "Fasttrack" and the title track "Demonic Assault", your ears will be ringing and your heart will be racing. The production is exactly what it needs to be: raw, unpolished, and dangerous. It sounds like a tape you’d find in a dusty box of 80s demos, but with a fresh energy that proves thrash is far from dead. These Swedes have managed to capture the lightning that hit Germany forty years ago and shove it into a modern bottle.
This is the kind of debut that makes a statement. It’s a total rager that ignores every trend in favor of old-school violence. If you want something to listen to while you’re destroying your living room or speeding down a highway, this is it. Savage Mania has landed a massive blow with their first full-length, and if this is just the beginning, the second attack is going to be a total bloodbath.
