Hailing from the concrete labyrinth of Itä-Pasila, Helsinki, Bullet Trauma originally made their mark with the 2023 rager "Hunting Season". These Finnish crossover thrashers have spent their time lurking in the shadows of the city, honing a style that bridges the gap between old-school speed and the blunt force of hardcore. After some internal shifts, they are back to kick some teeth in with a refreshed lineup and a nastier perspective on the decaying world around them.
This "Age Of Decline" EP is a nasty transition for the band. Bringing in Ville Holmström to handle the vocals and Severi Saarioja on the second guitar has turned them into a more lethal unit. It doesn’t have that over-produced sheen that ruins most modern metal; instead, it captures that specific Helsinki stench. You can tell they tracked this at Finnvox and their own headquarters because it has that authentic, DIY spirit that prioritizes aggression over trying to please the critics or the radio.
The music itself is a total throwback to when thrash metal actually had some teeth. "Caught In A Crossfire" and "Shark Tank" are built on riffs that were written in a stolen van. The new vocal delivery fits the vibe perfectly, sounding like a guy who has seen too much greed and opportunism in the streets. It’s fast, it’s angry, and it doesn't waste time on pointless solos or trying to be technical just for the sake of it.
By the time "Zero Tolerance" kicks in, the crossover influence is obvious. The drumming is a relentless assault that keeps the energy high, avoiding any of those boring, mid-tempo lulls that kill the momentum of shorter releases. The title track, "Age Of Decline", finishes things off by doubling down on the theme of mass corrosion. It’s a short, sharp shock to the system that proves these Finns are more interested in war-themed reality than any fake, polished nonsense.
If you want something sophisticated or experimental, you hit the spot. Bullet Trauma is here to provide a soundtrack for a collapsing society, and they do it with a lot of attitude. The two-guitar attack adds a layer of grime that was missing before, making the whole experience feel like a genuine threat. It’s a strong step up from their debut and a sign that the Helsinki underground is still producing high-octane filth.
