Deathwards is a Chilean metal entity that formed to resurrect the transition period of the late 1980s when death metal began splitting from the thrash metal framework. Taking inspiration from underground forces like Infernäl Mäjesty, Sindrome, Incubus, and Funeral Nation, the band captured this cross-genre regression on tape formats via Invictus Productions. This compilation brings together those early studio sessions with an updated audio treatment.

"In Deathlore 2017-2019" functions as a time capsule from the underground, catching the exact sonic transition where thrash metal turns into death metal. The audio quality on this compilation is vastly improved compared to the original cassettes, offering a sharper definition that helps the musicianship stand out. The tracks have the fierce, speeding spirit of 1987 and 1988, combining the rapid tempo of classic thrash with the darker, more sinister architecture of early death metal.

This compilation has strong songwriting underneath all the violence. Songs like “In Death I Become” and “Epitaph From The Underworld” throw out one ripping riff after another without losing momentum, while “The Hierarchist” leans harder into the old school death/thrash attack that fans of early South American extremity will worship.

The riffs are fast and relentless, shifting between aggressive speed runs and sinister chord progressions. The drum patterns maintain a hammering pace, locking into sync with the bass lines to drive the compositions forward. The vocal delivery is a constant, aggressive attack that fits the old-school arrangements. The addition of the thrashterpiece "Overlord" (don’t ask from whom) is a masterpiece, and pays proper tribute to the underground roots that inspired this style in the first place. The second half of the compilation features alternate versions from 2019, giving a different look at how these tracks developed over a short period. This collection is a strong, cohesive package of historical underground metal worship.
