Damnatio Ad Bestias is a French death metal trio formed around a devotion to the savage spirit of early extreme metal. Drawing influence from the ferocity of the 90s death and thrash scenes, the band focuses on aggressive riffing, violent pacing, and historical themes rooted in persecution, war, and fanaticism. After emerging from a period of silence, they return with their first full-length album, aiming to establish their place within the underground death metal landscape.

"Martyr Incipit" delivers a solid, unrelenting blast of death metal that firmly plants its boots in the old-school territory of the 1990s. The attack relies heavily on blending intense speed with calculated melodic structures, avoiding modern mainstream trends or soft production

choices. The guitar work maintains a fierce edge, delivering rapid riffs that merge early death metal blueprints with aggressive thrash patterns. The vocal presence provides a harsh, guttural delivery that fits the historical theme of violence and persecution under Roman rule.

The six compositions emphasize speed and constant energy. The album progresses through unrelenting tracks such as "Abominations Of The One God" and "The Beheading" without using useless filler elements. The percussion tracking drives the tempo effectively, pushing the fast arrangements forward with traditional blast beats and fast thrash rhythms. The leads provide a good contrast to the rhythm sections, inserting melody into the relentless structures without weakening the fundamental aggression of the songs.

The production tracking manages to preserve a raw atmosphere while allowing the individual instruments to sound distinct. The bass presence anchors the rhythmic patterns alongside the drums, ensuring the speed tracks sound unified. A few arrangements follow predictable death-thrash structures, meaning certain patterns sound familiar to anyone who has listened to early extreme metal records. However, the executions remain vicious. This release successfully represents the intensity of the French extreme scene, functioning as an authentic, no-nonsense underground death metal album.
