Synthre is a black metal project from Lohja, Finland, formed in 2024 by Mircea Purdea. The project first appeared in 2025 with "Heterodoxa", opening a historical concept tied to ancient Assyrian culture, its collapse, and its later religious transformation. "Thus Burns The House Of The Sun" continues that path with a tighter focus on Hatra, 241 CE, and the fall of a city caught between belief, war, disaster, and ruin.

"Thus Burns The House Of The Sun" is short, fiery, and full of character. In less than twenty minutes, Synthre builds an EP with a strong black metal core and a distinct Assyrian atmosphere, using Middle Eastern-colored melodies and rhythmic turns to give the material its own flavor. The EP does not waste time trying to sound bigger than it is. It comes in, burns bright, and leaves ash behind.

The best part here is how the historical theme is tied to the music without turning the EP into a lecture. The fall of Hatra gives the release a grim frame, and the music follows that frame with speed, tension, and a ceremonial air. The ancient Near Eastern touches are not decoration. They shape the character of the EP and make the black metal attack more vivid.

There are moments where the release could use more space to expand its ideas. Some passages pass too fast, and a concept this rich could benefit from a longer running time. At the same time, the short length also helps the EP stay focused.

"Thus Burns The House Of The Sun" is a strong step for Synthre. It has vision, fire, and enough personality to rise above the usual one-man black metal flood. It is not perfect, and it could go deeper, since the theme gives Synthre a lot to work with. Even so, this is a very good EP, compact, fierce, and worth returning to.
