Burial Clouds emerged from Portland's underground scene with a style that merges post, doom, sludge and atmospheric textures into long, emotionally charged compositions. Their 2023 debut, "Last Days Of A Dying World", earned attention for its balance between fragility and crushing heaviness, helping the band build momentum through tours in the Pacific Northwest, the UK and an appearance at ArcTanGent Festival. "Burn Holy" arrives after significant personnel changes and introduces vocalist Marina Lavelle, whose wide expressive range reshapes the band's overall character.

Founders Matt Mitchell and Flynn Hargreaves remain at the core, joined by guitarist Bryce Ramsey and drummer Tim Iserman. This renewed lineup sounds committed to expanding its musical vocabulary without abandoning the dramatic and introspective traits that established Burial Clouds in the first place.

"Burn Holy" is an ambitious album that constantly swings between beauty and destruction. The production is organic and raw without becoming messy, allowing every layer to remain audible even when the arrangements become overwhelming. Marina Lavelle is one of the biggest reasons this album succeeds. Her voice moves from vulnerable passages to furious eruptions with genuine emotional impact. The guitars build enormous landscapes filled with sorrow and tension, although several sections stretch longer than necessary and occasionally dilute the intensity the band is aiming for.

Lyrically, the album examines isolation, spiritual unrest and the struggle to preserve humanity in an increasingly indifferent world. Burial Clouds succeeds when they embrace patience and atmosphere, though a few compositions could have benefited from more concise structures. Even so, "Burn Holy" offers enough depth and emotional substance to remain engaging throughout its duration. It is an album that rewards attentive listening and shows a band entering a new chapter with renewed energy and stronger chemistry, even if not every idea reaches the same level of impact.
