Membrance is an Italian death metal band from Venice that blend old school Stockholm death metal with groove, thrash and selected black metal influences. Formed around the vision of bassist and vocalist Davide Lazzarini, the band has built its sound around a strong connection to Venetian culture and local history. For "Resa Marciana", the band consists of Davide Lazzarini on vocals and bass, Mattia Guzzonato on lead and rhythm guitars, Giacomo Rusconi on rhythm and acoustic guitars, and Giovanni De Fraja on drums. Their decision to perform entirely in Venetian dialect gives the album a distinctive character and separates it from many contemporary European death metal releases. The concept is deeply rooted in the myths, fears and social decline surrounding Venice, its islands and its transformation into a place overwhelmed by tourism and neglect. It is an ambitious thematic direction that never overshadows the music itself.

"Resa Marciana" was self produced and recorded between Venice and Rome during spring and summer 2025, before being mixed and mastered by Stefano Morabito at 16th Cellar Studio in Rome. The

production is robust and organic, preserving the rough edges without sacrificing detail. Stockholm death metal remains the main foundation, especially in the guitar tone, although groove metal rhythms and occasional black metal textures expand the palette without disrupting the flow. The album gains additional depth through its lyrical content, which explores ancient lagoon legends, cursed locations and the deterioration of Venice through an unfiltered local perspective. Even the artwork reinforces this concept, portraying the lion of Venice as a decaying chimera sinking alongside its city.

As a whole, "Resa Marciana" succeeds because it never sounds like a collage of influences assembled for novelty. The death metal core remains dominant throughout the album and the extra ingredients are integrated with restraint. The riffs are effective, the drumming maintains intensity without becoming excessive, and the vocals possess enough character to make the Venetian dialect feel natural even for listeners unfamiliar with it. The atmosphere is one of decay and melancholy without becoming theatrical or exaggerated.

Some sections could have benefited from greater variation in tempo and a few passages circle around similar rhythmic patterns, though they never derail the experience. Membrance has assembled an album that balances aggression with cultural storytelling in a convincing manner. It is an honest release that benefits from its local roots and from a songwriting approach that values substance over excess. There is enough personality here to distinguish the band from countless old school death metal acts currently emerging across Europe.
