Rauhbein emerged in 2021 around vocalist Henry and quickly became one of the more visible names in the modern German rock scene. Mixing German rock with folk melodies and Celtic influences, the band built its reputation through constant touring and energetic live performances instead of relying on studio reputation alone. Their first albums, "Steh Wieder Auf" and "Herz Eines Kriegers", both entered the German charts, while 2024's "Adrenalin" pushed them even higher commercially. Their music revolves around anthemic choruses, simple hooks, drinking songs, working class pride, friendship and perseverance, borrowing ideas from acts such as In Extremo, Schandmaul, Fiddler's Green and Dropkick Murphys without leaning too heavily on medieval aesthetics. "Rebellen & Helden" follows the same road with little interest in changing direction. The production is bright, full and tailored for large stages, placing the guitars, folk melodies and vocal lines in equal measure without burying one beneath another. Every chorus is built to invite participation, while the rhythmic foundation remains upbeat across most of the album. The songwriting rarely strays from familiar structures, though it avoids becoming completely predictable thanks to occasional Celtic flourishes and melodic variations. There are humorous moments mixed with more personal writing, giving the album some variety without changing its overall character.
"Rebellen & Helden" lies in its energy. The choruses are memorable after only a couple of listens and the folk elements add enough color to separate the album from standard German rock releases. At the same time, several compositions rely on similar rhythmic patterns and melodic ideas, making the second half less exciting than the opening stretch. The formula works, though it becomes easy to anticipate where many songs are heading before they reach their conclusion. More variation in tempo and arrangement could have given the album greater depth.
Henry's rough voice carries conviction and personality, matching the straightforward nature of the material. The guitars stay rooted in simple rock riffs while the folk instrumentation provides melody instead of dominating the arrangements. Everything is assembled with live performance in mind. This approach serves the album well, though listeners searching for surprises or adventurous songwriting will not discover much outside the band's established formula.
"Rebellen & Helden" offers energetic German rock with strong folk influences, memorable choruses and relatable lyrics without stretching beyond that goal. Some songs blend together after repeated listens and the familiar songwriting prevent the album from reaching a higher level, though the sincerity and enthusiasm remain difficult to question. Rauhbein has another dependable release that should satisfy existing followers and attract newcomers looking for accessible folk infused rock with enough spirit to fill summer festivals.
