Bakken comes from Ireland and has been active since 2011, building their name through independent work, live activity, and a heavy metal style rooted in speed, melody, and political frustration. Their debut, "Death Of A Hero", arrived in 2012, followed by "This Means War" in 2020, a release that gave their sound a wider reach outside their local circuit. The band’s base is heavy metal, with thrash metal energy and power metal melody running through it, a mix that places them near the old school tradition without turning them into a tribute act. Their lyrics deal with politics, social anger, peace, respect, and human responsibility, which give the music a sharper point than the usual fist-in-the-air material. Bakken is not subtle, and that is part of the deal.
"Consent To Deception" arrives after a long gap and sounds like an album built through work, arguments, edits, and stubbornness. Produced by Neil Haynes at Parlour Studios and mastered by Artem Music, it has a big, firm sound, with guitars placed up front, drums hitting hard, and vocals sitting high enough to lead without turning the mix into a vocal-first affair. The production is modern enough to give the songs size, while the playing stays tied to classic metal structure.
The Judas Priest, Metallica, and Helloween references make sense, mainly in the riffs, tempo choices, and vocal lines, though Bakken avoid sounding like a copy machine. The album has pace, melody, and anger, and most of it works because the band treats heavy metal as something physical, not academic. The political angle adds substance, though at times the message can become broad, and some choruses lean on obvious shapes. The better parts are where the speed and melody collide, giving the songs a heated, battle-ready character. "Consent To Deception" is a strong independent heavy metal release with real fire, a few rough edges, and enough personality to make the six-year wait matter.
