Sanctum Pyre formed in 2025 as an international band based in Athens. Rob Lundgren handles vocals, Nikos Tzouannis is responsible for keyboards, composition, lyrics, orchestration and production, while Mike G. performs guitars and bass, programs the drums and handles the mix. Two singles appeared before the debut album, introducing a style rooted in melodic power metal, epic heavy metal and Eastern scales. This three member formation produces music on a much broader scale than its size suggests. The vocal range is theatrical and imposing, the keyboards shape much of the atmosphere, and the guitar work shifts between driving riffs and expressive leads. Guest appearances by Thomas Karam, Shlomit Levi and Cristina Reyes expand the vocal cast, with the CD edition adding “The Veil Is Torn” as an exclusive bonus song.
“He Who Remains” presents fifty minutes of melodic heavy and power metal with an exotic character running through its melodies. Eastern scales are part of the actual songwriting, not decoration pasted onto standard European power metal. The choruses are huge, the guitars
remain active underneath the vocal lines, and the keyboards add colour without turning the album into symphonic overload. Rob Lundgren sings with range and control, moving from measured lower passages to high notes that retain power without becoming shrill.
Songs such as “Break Thy Chains”, “Ride Through Fire” and “The Oath” use shorter structures and immediate hooks, while “He Who Remains” and “Daughter Of The Wind” open into longer, more elaborate forms. The album becomes more effective when the Eastern melodies take a central role. During more conventional power metal passages, some sections lose part of their distinction.
The programmed drums are the main limitation coz simply we want them played by humans. Their timing is precise, though their texture can flatten passages that call for a human pulse and greater variation. Mike G.’s mix places the vocals, keyboards and guitar leads near the front, leaving some rhythm guitar sections thinner than expected. “Daughter Of The Wind” was produced separately by Rodrigo Camblong, and the sonic change is noticeable near the album’s closing section. Its guest vocal exchanges bring another dramatic layer, while the title song uses Cristina Reyes with restraint. “He Who Remains” is an ambitious debut with developed compositions, excellent singing and a distinctive Eastern melodic core. A more organic drum sound and heavier rhythm guitar presence would take the next release further.
