Demetra’s Scars is an alternative and groove metal band from Modena, Italy. The lineup consists of Didi, Denise Pellacani, on vocals, Samuele Casari on guitar, Thomas Bertellini on bass, and Yassir Belfartas on drums. The four member formation uses a single guitar, which places extra importance on the rhythm section and vocal phrasing. Didi moves between controlled melody, spoken tension, and a rougher attack, bringing emotional variation to songs centered on anger, fear, ego, manipulation, and self recovery. Casari provides the riff core through low guitar lines and compact rhythmic figures, Bertellini adds depth to the lower register, and Belfartas anchors the material with firm groove based drumming. The band’s music joins physical metal rhythm with inward reflection, giving personal conflict as much space as aggression. Its lyrical focus rejects imposed roles and social conditioning, concentrating on the point where submission turns into refusal. “Born Unbroken” presents Demetra’s Scars as a band drawn to psychological struggle, personal freedom, and the damage left by expectations imposed from outside.
“Born Unbroken” contains nine tracks and lasts around thirty four minutes. Marco Malavasi handled the sessions at Sonic Design, Bruno Stella took care of mixing and mastering, Pole Fankaz created the artwork, and PoleDigitalpix supplied the photography. The production has a broad, modern profile, with the guitars placed low, the bass present beneath them, and the drums retaining definition during the heavier passages. Didi remains central in the mix, an appropriate choice for an album whose subject depends heavily on vocal expression. Her performance is overwhelming and moves through restrained verses, melodic passages, and more aggressive peaks without turning the songs into demonstrations of technique. The guitar writing relies on groove, short rhythmic patterns, and measured chord changes, while the rhythm section maintains a steady pulse across the album.
The result is compact and cohesive, with enough variation in tempo and vocal delivery to prevent the material from becoming flat. A few passages stay with the same rhythmic idea longer than necessary, and some melodic lines follow routes that are easy to anticipate. Those are minor issues across an album that maintains its course and contains no padding. The lyrics examine the conflict between the self and the version created by fear, authority, and other people’s expectations. Such themes can slip into empty self empowerment slogans, though the darker language and confrontational vocal tone stop most of that from happening.
The album’s brief length is another sensible decision, since the concept reaches its conclusion before becoming overstated. “Born Unbroken” is disciplined alternative and groove metal with emotional intensity, compact songwriting, and a production capable of giving the songs scale without burying their human core. It has enough melodic range to soften the monotony that sometimes affects groove metal, and enough aggression to prevent the reflective subject from turning passive. The result is a mature, focused album that earns repeated plays through substance over decoration.
