Eternal Mourn formed in Italy through drummer Debla and guitarist and vocalist Gabriel, with guitarist Eros and bassist and vocalist Santo later completing the lineup. Each member arrived with experience in the Italian extreme metal underground, and that background is evident in the deliberate construction of the band’s debut material. Eternal Mourn works within the early 1990s death doom tradition, joining low tuned riffing, mournful guitar melodies and grave vocal work with a heavy, measured pulse.

Melancholy is central to the band’s character, though the music also draws upon frustration, loss and internal collapse. The two guitars provide more than simple bulk, moving between oppressive chords and sorrowful melodic lines that deepen the emotional temperature. This is death doom built from bleakness and restraint, with little decoration surrounding its central ideas.

Sessions for “Winds Of Sorrow” took place at SPVN Studio in Guanzate, and the resulting three songs retain a rugged surface suited to the band’s bleak approach. The guitars have a rough grain, the drums strike with a firm and uncomplicated character, the bass reinforces the lower register, and the vocals remain embedded within the mix. Production is restrained enough to preserve the raw edges, though separation between the instruments prevents the heavier sections from collapsing into an indistinct mass. The lyrical focus remains fixed on grief, tragedy, personal decline and emotional ruin, giving the EP a consistent atmosphere of isolation.

Melodic leads prevent the low end from becoming shapeless, while the riff construction stops the sorrow from slipping into hollow gothic sentiment. Its restricted tempo range eventually flattens part of the emotional curve, and the three compositions inhabit similar shades of despair, leaving few genuine surprises once the method becomes apparent. The compact format limits that issue, although a longer release would require greater rhythmic variation and a wider vocal range to maintain the same intensity. “Winds Of Sorrow” is a severe and carefully shaped debut, rich in mournful melody and heavy riffing, with enough character to make Eternal Mourn more than another name passing through the current death doom revival.
