Element Of Fate is a duo American metal band formed in the Washington, DC area and now active between the capital and Portland, Oregon. Vocalist and visual artist Carol Phillips, also known as Madame Crol, works alongside guitarist and multi instrumentalist Scott Loose, with each member covering a broad creative role. Their music joins classic heavy metal riffing with symphonic scale, gothic color, progressive construction, and a prominent melodic vocal line. Reference points extend from Nightwish and Seven Spires to Judas Priest, Lacuna Coil, and Dio, a wide spread that places grand orchestration beside traditional heavy metal technique.

Fantasy, mysticism, and science fiction provide the recurring imagery, giving the band a cinematic visual setting for songs centered on human struggle and change. The partnership between a dedicated vocalist and one musician handling guitars plus additional instruments makes Element Of Fate unusually compact for music built on so many layers. "Dreamfall" is the band’s debut full length album, issued by Bravemusic, after a Kickstarter campaign, advance teasers, and a related music video.

Produced and mastered by John Mario at JBG, "Dreamfall" is constructed from powerful riffs, soaring vocals, orchestral layers, and detailed arrangements, with its central character coming from the collision of straightforward heavy metal, symphonic scale, gothic darkness, and progressive turns. John Mario’s production separates the main components capably, although the amount of ornament sometimes reduces the impact of riffs that need a simpler setting.

The album’s main issue is excess. Several arrangements gather too many ideas around the guitar and vocal hooks, so a dramatic rise can become crowded before reaching its payoff, while progressive detail and symphonic decoration can turn an immediate section into a longer route to the same destination. Phillips brings range and presence, Loose anchors the songs with guitar work that respects classic metal form, and the orchestration adds scale when used with restraint.

"Dreamfall" is most effective when the central riff, lead vocal, and melodic line command the song, and it remains a capable debut with attractive melodies, committed performances, and a coherent profile, though firmer editing would give its heavier moments greater impact and its grander ideas a more decisive payoff. Element Of Fate has produced a good melodic metal album with enough personality to warrant attention, accompanied by enough excess to leave the next release with obvious areas for growth.
