Rapid is a Finnish power trio from Helsinki, formed more than a decade before the arrival of its first full length. The band first appeared on record with the 2022 mini album "Blackstar Oppression Regime", released through Dying Victims Productions, where their mix of speed metal, hardcore punk and old wave black metal was already taking shape. The line up features Vincent Revenge on bass, lead vocals and saurophone, Spectre on guitars, additional vocals and keyboards, and The Goon on drums, percussion and additional vocals.
Rapid’s music comes from a distinctly underground corner of heavy metal, where fast riffs, rough-edged vocals and strange melodic turns meet without being tied to one narrow genre label. Their debut album expands the ideas heard on the earlier release into a longer and more varied set, with the band leaning further into old school heavy metal, speeds metal and blackened rock influences. The result places Rapid among those Finnish underground acts that prefer eccentric songwriting over clean genre boundaries.
"Enter The Realm Of Fire" is a 43 minute debut built around fast guitar work, energetic drumming and Vincent Revenge’s increasingly grim vocal delivery. The production leaves enough room for the individual parts to remain distinct, while the guitars carry much of the album’s character through melodic leads and old school riffing. The lyrics move through witchcraft, death, necromancy, darkness and occult imagery, giving the record a distinctly nocturnal atmosphere that suits the music without turning every song into theatrical metal. Tracks such as "Witchcraft Of Horror", "Necromantic Warriors", "Horemheb" and "Black Poison" represent the album’s faster side, while "Moonless Night" and "The Path Of Illusions" introduce more measured songwriting.
The closing "Beyond The Gates Of The Rapid Flames" stretches past eight minutes and gives the album its most expansive moment, bringing together the heavy metal and black metal elements that run through the release. Rapid also uses keyboards and the unusual saurophone without allowing them to dominate the guitars, which adds an eccentric touch to the overall sound. There are moments where the songwriting could have been trimmed, especially when the album extends its ideas for longer than necessary, and the vocal approach will not appeal to listeners looking for conventional heavy metal singing. Still, "Enter The Realm Of Fire" has enough character to separate itself from the endless stream of retro metal releases, mainly through its strange combinations and unpredictable arrangements. Dying Victims Productions is a fitting home for a record this rooted in underground metal culture, and Rapid’s debut presents a band with a very specific musical language, rough around the edges, unconventional and clearly aimed at listeners who prefer their heavy metal a little less predictable.
