Speed Stroke is an Italian hard rock band formed in Milan, built around vocalist Jack, guitarists D.B and Michael, bassist Fungo, and drummer Maddy. Across their career, the band has developed a sound rooted in hard rock, sleaze rock and street metal, with Scandinavian influences meeting the swagger of classic 1980s rock. “Damage Control” is their fourth full length release, with Dario
Capacci of Trick Or Treat appearing on drums and Giorgia Colleluori of Sinner and IT’sALIE contributing vocals on “Blessed By Misery”. The artwork comes from Claudio Elias Scialabba, while Erik Mårtensson of Eclipse handled the mixing and mastering at Mass Destruction Production, a studio connected with names such as Sinner and Primal Fear.
“Damage Control” runs for just under forty minutes and packs its material into a compact hard rock format built around loud guitars, melodic hooks, solos and Jack’s rough vocal attack. The production gives the guitars a prominent position, while the rhythm section provides the necessary foundation for the faster and more melodic moments. Lyrically, the album revolves around panic, liberation, uncertainty and the conflict between comfort and change, themes that give the songs a common direction.
“Blessed By Misery” adds Giorgia Colleluori’s vocals to the arrangement, creating one of the more distinctive moments within the album’s overall sound. The songwriting aims for immediacy, with choruses and guitar lines placed at the front of the compositions. There is enough variation between the harder street metal influence and the more melodic side of the band to prevent the material from becoming one dimensional. The result is a straightforward fourth album with plenty of classic hard rock attitude and modern Scandinavian sleaze elements, presented through a focused and accessible production.
