Judicator is an another underratedAmerican power metal band formed in 2012 by John Yelland and Tony Seddon, with a sound rooted in traditional heavy metal and power metal. To say it in two words, Judicator is the best American version/answer to Blind Guardian. Based in California, the band has built a substantial discography around dramatic arrangements, high-register vocals, melodic guitar work and themes drawn from history, literature and mythology. Over the years, Judicator has moved through several line-up changes while retaining a recognizable approach to classic metal songwriting.
Releases-masterpieces such as "The Last Emperor", "At The Expense Of Humanity", "The Majesty Of Decay" or the last “Concord” established the band within the modern traditional and power metal scene, with an emphasis on detailed guitar arrangements, strong vocal melodies and lyrical subjects that extend beyond standard fantasy themes. "The Elector" arrives as a new three-song EP, once again placing Judicator in a compact format where the songwriting has little space for unnecessary material.
"The Elector" is an EP lasting around fifteen minutes, built around two songs re recorded for 2026 and a metal adaptation of ABBA's "Dancing Queen". The title track and "Gloria" are rooted in Judicator's established power metal language, with guitars, keyboards, orchestration and John Yelland's prominent vocal presence shaping the material. The production was handled by Chad Anderson and Judicator, with Anderson also responsible for the mix and mastering, resulting in a modern presentation where the guitars and keyboards share much of the musical space.
"The Elector" has a historical setting and lyrics dealing with political judgment, failure, responsibility and the burden placed upon an individual, while "Gloria" continues the serious thematic approach. The ABBA cover takes the familiar melody into a metal setting through Francisco Javier Pérez's arrangement, keeping the recognizable core while surrounding it with guitars, keyboards and layered vocals. Hearing it I remebered that guy dressed with different animal costumes singing/satirizing the Trump-Epstein teens, haha. The EP functions as a compact introduction to this reunited incarnation of Judicator, with enough variation between its original material and the cover to make the three song format feel purposeful.
