Ninth Realm is a Maryland based death thrash band formed in 2019 by drummer Joey Burke and lead guitarist Liam McMahon during their college years at the University of Maryland. The band has released six individual recordings, including a demo, two EPs, a promo tape and a full length album, alongside splits and compilations with other bands. Their material draws from death thrash, metallic hardcore, black metal and traditional heavy metal, with influences ranging from Iron Age, Bolt Thrower and Power Trip to Mercyful Fate, Celtic Frost, Bathory, Dissection, Autopsy and Candlemass. The lyrical setting is connected to Tythorin, a dark fantasy world created by Joey Burke, dealing with vengeance, fate, grief, trauma and human endurance.
"Damnation's Veil" hits 36 minutes and was recorded between April and July 2025, with drums, guitars and bass handled by Matthew Michel at Viva Studios in Fairfax, Virginia, while vocals were recorded by Sebastian Philips at his home studio in Dundalk, Maryland. The production gives the guitars a prominent role, with the death metal aggression meeting thrash riffs, black metal atmosphere and traditional heavy metal melodies. The vocals sit firmly within the darker side of the material, adding a grim edge to the songs. The album moves through fast riffing, heavier mid paced sections and melodic guitar work, keeping the arrangements focused and compact.
"Damnation's Veil", "Cohorts Of The Abyss" and "Beyond The Void" represent the album's core approach, combining old school metal references with hardcore influenced aggression. The fantasy themes add another layer to the lyrical content, giving the songs a setting that connects the different musical influences. "Damnation's Veil" is a focused death-thrash release with enough variation across its short running time to remain engaging, while its production and songwriting place it firmly within the darker end of contemporary underground metal.
