Sardonic Witchery is a Portuguese band that has walked the road of old school satanic black metal and black-thrash for years, with King Demogorgon leading the project once again. This time he is joined by G. Lucis Ruina, and the two of them shaped "Hell's Thorns Attack" in 2025, with the sessions split between Texas and Washington DC. G. Lucis Ruina adds a second pair of hands to the writing and the project comes out harder for it.
Eight tracks and thirty five minutes, with no time wasted on small talk. "Hell's Thorns Attack" is black-thrash at full speed, with savage riffs from "Crown Of Burning Spikes" down to "Dark Moon Slaughter" and ferocious vocals sitting right on top of them. The production is darker and more powerful than on the earlier releases, the guitars sound bigger, the rawness of the underground stays untouched, and no riff gets buried in the mix. The songwriting is all about riffs, and the track lengths show it. None crosses five minutes, and "Sabbath Of Sadistic Desire" is finished in barely three and a half.
The playing is fast, violent and tireless, and nobody here asks for permission to slow down. "Ego Sum Rex Ignis Aeternus" brings Latin into the blasphemy, and "Raped By The Horrendous Night" goes for plain shock. It is satanic imagery played with total commitment, no jokes and no winks. The eight tracks run in one straight line of aggression, one long beating with no interruption, which is how a sound like this should be delivered. Sardonic Witchery hits the throttle, nails it down and stays there until "Dark Moon Slaughter" burns out.
