Reaping Asmodeia is a Midwest death metal and deathcore band formed around the technical and extreme side of the American scene. Their early period included the release of "Bodies In Barrels", followed by work with Prosthetic Records and tours alongside Born Of Osiris, Cryptopsy and Signs Of The Swarm. The current lineup features Eric Keyes on vocals, Alexander Kelly on guitars, Jakub Kingery on bass and Daniel Koppy on drums, with "Poison Of The Earth" representing the band's early material in this deluxe reissue.
"Poison Of The Earth" is built around technical death metal, deathcore breakdowns and frantic guitar work, with the songs moving through rapid drum patterns, low tuned riffs and abrupt rhythmic changes. "Poison Of The Earth" and the material surrounding it have an aggressively technical approach, while the two re recorded tracks with Steven Lane offer a different vocal presentation from Tim Snook's original performances. The production gives the guitars enough presence for the intricate riffing to register, although the overall sound retains the raw quality of an early release.
The songwriting can become overly dependent on constant rhythmic shifts, with some transitions appearing more functional than memorable. The performance is technically demanding, especially in the drums and guitar work. As a deluxe reissue, the release has historical value for the band's early development, though the material itself shows some of the limitations that come with an early technical deathcore approach.
