Prophets Of Thwaites is an ethereal doom band from the Netherlands, working with slow grooves, hypnotic riffs, dreamy vocals and layered guitar leads that swing between crushing heaviness and fragile beauty. The lineup is Esma Larabi on vocals and guitar, Ferry Vermeeren on bass and Ingmar Regeling on drums, who also plays in Drive By Wire, Stone In Egypt and The Good Hand.

Voted Best Downstage Act in the 2025 VERA Poll, the band released the digital EP “Vulnerant Omnes Ultima Necat” on March, recorded with guest drummer Nico Beemster of Accabadora. Autumn dates are booked at Musicon, Rituals Of Doom Festival in Aalsmeer and Willemeen in Arnhem.

The CD edition runs just under thirty minutes over four tracks, and only two of them are studio recordings: “A Deadlock” at over seven minutes and the title track “Vulnerant Omnes Ultima Necat” at around six and a half. The other two are live, the title track again and “Karzelek”, which has no studio version on this release.

Beemster’s drumming gives the slow grooves a heavy floor, the layered guitar leads add a drift over the riffs, and the dreamy vocals sit inside that haze as one more layer of atmosphere. The Latin title translates to “They all wound, and the last one kills”, a fatalistic line that matches the sinking pace of the studio tracks, though lyrics are not what hold the attention here.

Songwriting stays with a few hypnotic riffs stretched across seven minutes, and the turns between crushing and fragile arrive in the order you expect them, so “A Deadlock” gives up its surprises early. Originality is modest: riffs and grooves follow the doom-stoner course, and the dreamy vocals over the layered leads are the only turn that belongs to the band. The two studio tracks are good doom with a real drummer behind them, and the live half proves the band holds up on stage, but anyone after a full set of fresh songs gets two.
