Formed in Indianapolis, Indiana, Mauled started wreaking havoc on their local scene in 2022. The lineup consists of vocalist Abe Kirkpatrick, guitarists Chance York and Eli Harrell, bassist DJ Baker, and drummer Tyler Powers. They quickly built a rabid following, packing hometown venues and turning the pit into an absolute warzone. Fast forward to 2026, and the quintet is dropping their new EP, "When Your Eyes Are Shut". This release channels pure hatred, focusing heavily on the darkest corners of human interaction, revenge, and the agonizing fallout of toxic relationships.

"When Your Eyes Are Shut" delivers a brutal, blunt-force trauma to the skull. The guitar work from York and Harrell relies heavily on crushing breakdowns and low-tuned hostility. Powers batters the drum kit with frantic energy, driving the aggression forward at every turn. Kirkpatrick delivers agonizing screams that match the violent lyrical themes perfectly. The music strips away modern deathcore bullshit, sticking to a vicious, old-school mentality. This is a pissed-off sonic beating designed exclusively for throwing fists in a sweaty basement.

The EP brings some serious heavy hitters into the fold to amplify the violence. Frankie Palmeri of Emmure steps up on "Mouthful Of Glass", adding his signature hostility to a song dedicated to making enemies suffer. JP Kaine of Surfaced joins the carnage on "Drop Dead Gorgeous", diving headfirst into the misery of manipulation and endless regret. These vocal collaborations match the sheer hostility of the instrumentation. Tracks like "TheLastThingYouSee" and "Unidentifiable Autopsy" maintain that relentless aggression, keeping the intensity dialed to the absolute maximum.

Mauled provides pure, unfiltered hatred. "When Your Eyes Are Shut" gives a savage, spine-snapping experience from start to finish. The formula is aggressive and strictly to the point, giving deathcore fans a reliable reason to start a riot. It succeeds by keeping things vicious and uncompromising throughout its runtime. Throw this on, learn the breakdowns, and get ready to wreck your neck.

Score: 7.0
