Tarask crashed into the underground with their debut, "Pharus Morti", spinning a tale about some poor bastard swallowed by a rotting, Lovecraftian industrial hellscape. Antiq dropped the French act's second full-length, "Sitra Ahra", continuing that same nightmare. The protagonist barely survived the cursed metropolis. Now isolated, he dives headfirst into Satanism and dark rituals to murder the monsters inside his own head.

The themes dig into a vicious hatred for modern consumerism. The lyrics spit poison on a society demanding absolute conformity. Left completely alone, the main character embraces the occult, exploring Goetia and the dark paths of the qliphoth. French painter Sözö Tözö provided the cover art, capturing this downward spiral perfectly. The visual art matches the audio misery.

The music strays away from standard blast-beat warfare. Tarask focuses heavily on depressive and atmospheric black metal elements. The guitars drag out long, sorrowful passages. The vocals scream pure torment, echoing the desperation of summoning forbidden forces. The production keeps things grim and raw.

Giving this a seven out of ten means the execution works well, giving us plenty of gloom. Sometimes the riffs drag on too long. A few transitions between the extensive tracks lose momentum. The darkness remains genuine throughout the runtime. Tarask brings a heavy dose of despair for anyone looking to stare at the wall and hate the world.
