Hrob started in Slovakia during November 2021 by Michal and Kiko as a side-project to Krudus. Drummer Narran and bassist Ivana joined shortly after. That lineup lasted six months before Matej and Vrana stepped in to complete the ranks. The band dropped a self-titled demo in June 2023 on Atomic Vision Productions. They played their first gig in August 2023 in Bratislava. The band gigged across Europe with Morbific, Fessus, Beton, Abortion, Cancer Void, Perversity, Sedem Minút Strachu, Teratoma, Kaosquad, Night Hag, Cryptic Brood, and Claustrum. Rotting Racoon Records featured the track "Hrob" on the "New Wave Of Old School Death Metal" tape in October 2024. Now, the band releases their debut full-length.
Hrob finally unearths "Brána Chladu" to shatter our eardrums. The Slovakian squad brings pure death/doom misery straight from the local cemetery. Growling strictly in their native tongue adds an extra layer of dread to the whole rotting package. You get putrid, slow decay mixed with sudden bursts of speed. The music echoes Paradise Lost and Asphyx. The riffs drag you through the mud. Kiko and Michal churn out rotting tremolo picking and crushing chords. Occasionally, they throw in haunting melodies. Michal delivers deep, sewer-dwelling growls that echo across the graveyard. The vocal delivery drips with slime and darkness.
Matej punishes the drum kit with brute force, switching from doom-laden pounding to fast blasting. Vrana thumps the thick bass strings right into the skull. Songs like "Chrám Prázdnoty" and "Brána Chladu" drop massive, heavy sections on the listener. The entire band plays with relentless metal fury. "Brána Chladu" delivers total doom devastation. It crushes bones and leaves a pile of ash behind. A brutal debut for maniacs who worship rotting death metal. Hrob destroys everything in their path. The songs offer a completely straightforward ride into the crypt.
