Since 2010, the Turin thrashers known as Ural have been ripping up stages and stereo systems everywhere. These guys have dropped three full-length albums so far, including "Party With The Wolves", "Just For Fun", and "Psychoverse", along with a few shorter releases. They mix full-throttle thrash metal with a heavy dose of crossover adrenaline. Now they are back with their fourth full-length, "Anthropic Genetic Involution", marking their second release through Xtreem Music. The wolf pack is definitely primed and ready to shred once again.
"Anthropic Genetic Involution" kicks down the door with "Extreme Paranoia", giving you a massive dose of what Ural does best. The vocals are strong and piercing, riding over riffs that twist with weird, dissonant angles reminiscent of Voivod. The guitar solos are completely out of control in the greatest way possible. Tracks like "God Of Lies" pack a ton of musical variety into a single cohesive structure. It is creative, expansive thrash metal played at maximum velocity. As you push forward into "Open Scars", the band constantly throws unexpected turns, keeping the listening experience highly engaging.
The guitar work on this album is an absolute masterclass. "Rat In A Cage" brings intense crossover speed mixed with genuine melody, topped off with a face-melting traditional metal solo. They even throw in a totally savage version of "Flat Black" by jazz trombonist J.J. Johnson, transforming it into a vicious thrasher. "Terror Eyes" delivers a relentless, burning attack where intense riffing meets pure musical madness. The whole thing winds down into a gnarly, stomping rhythm loaded with more wild soloing, crashing straight into "...To Change Your Vision", bringing the album to an atmospheric close.
Producer Davide Billia returns to handle the sound, having worked on their previous releases. He gives "Anthropic Genetic Involution" an incredibly massive, punishing tone. Everything punches through the speakers perfectly. The visual side is handled by artist Luca Solomacello, delivering a completely badass cover painting that matches the sheer intensity of the music. Ural delivers the goods here, offering a heavily armed thrash assault that demands maximum volume.
