Family Devotion Murder hail from Italy, spewing out highly driven death/thrash metal. They dropped their debut album "Tentacles" back in 2021. Now they return swinging with their second full-length, "Il Carro Del Diavolo", unleashed through Ad Noctem Records. The guys have clearly spent the last four years weaponizing their attack, stepping up their game with a more focused approach.
A massive chunk of this album consists of tracks the band previously fired off as singles. You get "Days Of Glory", "Marpa", "Divide Et Impera", "Blood And Ice", and "Inferno 2003" all grouped together here. They also threw in two fresh songs, "We Are Lost" and "Where's My Faith", to round out the tracklist. Grouping old singles with new material can sometimes result in a disjointed mess. Family Devotion Murder avoided that trap entirely, making sure everything connects into one cohesive metal assault.
Musically, the guys channel the groove and aggression found in bands like Slipknot, Meshuggah, and Black Label Society. Baron handles the vocal attack and rhythm guitars, working alongside Malguajo on lead guitar to lay down thick, aggressive riffs. Down in the rhythm section, Canaja on bass and Castigo on drums keep the momentum driving forward at all times. The musicianship is strong across the board, providing plenty of heavy groove and straightforward thrashing madness.
The music strikes heavy and keeps your head banging for the majority of the album. Some sections could use a little more variation, as the relentless tempo occasionally blends the riffs together. The energy remains high throughout the runtime, and the band delivers a genuinely aggressive experience. They maintain a consistent driving force, giving fans of extreme music what they want out of an angry metal release.
"Il Carro Del Diavolo" proves Family Devotion Murder are moving in the right direction. The new songs hold their own next to the older singles, showing the guys have plenty of gas left in the tank. This album delivers for anyone looking to bang their head to some heavy metal. Get the album, turn up the volume, and let the music do the talking.
