Exorcizphobia formed in Trutnov in 2005, carving out a name by playing extremely fast thrash metal mixed with hardcore punk elements. Over the years they toured the European circuit extensively alongside major heavyweights like Voivod, Napalm Death, and Exodus. Following an Andel award win for their previous album "Spiritual Exodus", the Czech thrashers return to the trenches for their fifth studio release. "Neurosis Unbound" arrives to the masses courtesy of Doomentia Records and DTD Records.
The nine songs on "Neurosis Unbound" deliver aggressive riffing heavily mixed with gloomy 1990s alternative influences. Guitars tear through the speakers continuously, driven by an intense rhythm section. Exorcizphobia incorporate a darker atmosphere into their crossover roots instead of simply playing standard speed metal. The production at Golden Hive Studio under Amak Golden keeps the instruments obnoxiously loud, prioritizing the riffing attack and the pounding drums. Tracks like "True Lie" and "Hell In Veins" blast fast tempos and vicious vocal deliveries.
The lyrics dive into serious addiction, broken relationships, and the miserable daily struggles of human existence. Inspired heavily by Arthur Schopenhauer, the themes focus entirely on personal decay and the mental toll of modern life. Michel "Away" Langevin from Voivod created the cover art for this release. His distinct visual signature adds a massive layer of darkness to the package, matching the somber topics explored in the vocal lines perfectly.
"Neurosis Unbound" is an awesome headbanger for anyone wanting fast music without a fake plastic sheen. The guitars rip at high speeds, keeping the adrenaline pumping. Sometimes the song structures become predictable, making a couple of tracks run into each other on casual listens. The riffs are mostly killer and snap your neck. You get a raw, honest thrash attack diving straight into gloomy darkness.
This fifth full-length is another strong addition to the Exorcizphobia arsenal. The Czech crew writes killer riffs and brings serious aggression to the table. "Neurosis Unbound" provides lethal guitar sections alongside intense lyrical misery. It is an awesome album to blast on giant speakers. Pick up a copy for straightforward thrash metal coated in a massive grim shadow.
