Formed in 2014, Sicarius unleashed two full-length albums of aggressive black metal before internal fractures completely dissolved their lineup. Six years of silence followed that collapse. Founders Argyris and Carnage eventually reconnected to drag their dead band out of the grave. They recruited a new vocalist named Akefalos to handle the vocals. Following a 2024 split release, the reinvigorated lineup locked themselves in the studio to track their third album, "Nex".

This music violently crashes through the speakers with absolute malice. Sicarius merges freezing Scandinavian tremolo picking with heavy American death metal muscle. Akefalos screams with total insanity, shredding his vocal cords over blinding blast beats. Guitars violently rip through chords, abandoning any trace of melody for pure sonic destruction. The resulting sound destroys everything in its path.

"Opened Obsidian Gateways" and "Cold Death" immediately assault the listener with furious speed and zero hesitation. The drums constantly batter the skull. Guitars shred through riffs furiously. The bass rumbles ominously underneath the blast beats, adding massive low-end power to the overall assault. Every single riff drips with pure metallic violence.

The production on "Nex" sounds incredibly heavy and destructive. Guitars sound absolutely massive. Drums crash like artillery shells exploding inside a small room. Akefalos sounds completely deranged, echoing over the metallic rhythmic carnage. Even guest vocalist Charles Hedger joins the fray on the closing title track "Nex" to add extra vocal violence. The engineering strictly focuses on maximizing audio devastation.

"Nex" proves the resurrection of Sicarius was a totally necessary act of musical violence. The album rips violently through its entire runtime. Zero weak moments exist anywhere on the tracklist. Sicarius returned solely to destroy everything around them, achieving massive success with this monstrous output.

Score: 8.0
