Savage Master has been haunting the underground since 2013, led by Stacey Savage and her hooded executioners. They have spent over a decade proving that traditional heavy metal never died, it just got more dangerous. On the other side of this split, Mystic Storm emerged from the Russian tundra around 2021. After their debut album, they vanished into the shadows for five years, leaving fans wondering when their brand of occult speed metal would strike again. Now, Shadow Kingdom Records has brought these two forces together to remind everyone why leather and spikes will always rule.
Savage Master kicks things off on side A and they aren't messing around. Coming off the high of their last full-length, they offer three tracks that are pure, unadulterated steel. "One Step Closer To Love" and "The Last Kiss" show a band that has mastered the art of the three-minute heavy metal anthem. The riffs are catchy, the rhythm section is a relentless machine, and Stacey’s vocals have that certain rasp that separates the leaders from the followers. It is simple, effective, and reeks of old-school spirit.
When the title track "The Power" hits, you realize Savage Master is currently operating at a level most bands can’t even see. The song has a certain magic to it, capturing that mid-80s feeling where every chorus felt like a call to arms. They didn't need to change their style; they just sharpened the blades. The production is raw enough to keep the underground happy but clear enough to hear every galloping bass line. It is a brief but violent reminder that they are still at the top of the food chain.
Flip the record over and Mystic Storm takes you into a different kind of darkness. It has been a long wait since their debut, but "Тень Грядущего" proves the time away was spent honing their craft. Their side is longer, more atmospheric, and deeply rooted in a speed metal style that feels ancient. The Russian lyrics have some mystique that fits the occult vibe perfectly. The tempo shifts are handled with a professional touch, moving from high-speed assaults to epic, soaring sections without losing any momentum.
"Блуждающее время" and "В Бездны" are where the Russian squad really flexes their muscles. The vocals are incredible, reaching those high-pitched falsettos that would make the legends of the 80s nod in approval. There is a certain intensity in the way Mystic Storm plays; it is fast, but there is a layer of epic dynamics beneath the speed. They manage to create a cold, haunting atmosphere while still making you want to bang your head until your neck snaps. It is a triumphant return for a band that many feared had disappeared forever.
This split is exactly what a collaboration should be. You get two bands with different approaches to the genre, one focused on anthemic hooks and the other on epic, atmospheric speed, resulting in a 27-minute assault that is mandatory for anyone who worships at the altar of real metal. There is no filler, no wasted motion, and absolutely no mercy. Shadow Kingdom Records knew what they were doing when they paired these two powerhouses together. It is a high-quality release that leaves you wanting more from both camps.
