Hailing from the United States, Desolus first stomped onto the scene in 2024 as a power trio. Their debut, "System Shock", was a total assault that put them on the map for anyone worshipping at the altar of old-school speed and aggression. After hitting the road and proving they could execute that razor-sharp style live, they decided to expand. By the start of 2026, the lineup grew into a quartet, bringing in a new drummer and moving their original percussionist to a second guitar slot to beef up the carnage.

"Dwellers Of The Twilight Void" takes the foundation of their debut and turns up the darkness. It is a bloodier, more sinister affair that leans into a more diabolical atmosphere. You can tell the addition of a second guitar has given them more weapons to work with, making the overall attack more lethal. The speed is still there, but it is wrapped in a production style that provides a dungeonic atmosphere without sacrificing the sharpness of the riffs.

The new skin-basher, Bileh Dougsiyeh, is a total animal behind the kit. His performance is unhinged, pushing the rest of the band to play with a frantic energy. Songs like "Dweller Of The Twilight Void" and "Trespass The Threshold" are pure speed metal excellence, blending the classic Teutonic influence with a blackened edge. The textures are more layered than before, showing a natural progression in how they construct their riffs and transitions.

The vocal attack is fierce, matching the intensity of the dual-guitar assault. Tracks like "Woman Of Infernal Beauty" and "Nefarious Dominion" prove that the band is focused on efficient execution.

There is a duality between the straightforward speed and the more haunting, twisted moments that creep in. This evolution keeps the listener locked in for the full thirty-six minutes, as the band drags you further into their shadowy world.

The production on "Dwellers Of The Twilight Void" is a major plus. It has a dingy quality that fits the horror-inspired vibe perfectly, yet every instrument is audible. The transition to a four-piece has clearly paid off, as the interplay between the two guitars adds a new level of depth to the songs. It is a fast, aggressive, and dark ride that honors the spirit of the '80s legends while sounding like a hungry new force.

You should pick up this album if you want thrash that is dangerous. It avoids the polished, safe sound of many modern bands and instead embraces a more primitive, blackened spirit. If you crave speed metal with a horror aesthetic and a quartet lineup that sounds like they are out for blood, this is a mandatory addition to your collection.
