Poland’s Mangled Recrement come crawling out of the underground with their first demo, a short and foul blast of old-school death metal worship released through Caligari Records. Formed in 2024 and featuring members tied to acts like Leucotome and Toughness, the trio clearly understand the filthy side of the genre. This is not polished death metal aimed at modern trends. “Demo” reeks of rotten riffs, primitive violence, and horror-drenched atmosphere shaped by the spirit of early death metal legends. You can hear traces of Autopsy, Immolation, Undergang and Cryptopsy in the band’s approach, though Mangled Recrement push it through their own sewer-soaked filter.

What works best here is the raw energy and the complete devotion to the old death metal spirit. The guitars are distorted to hell, the drums attack with relentless force, and the vocals sound diseased without drifting into cartoon territory. The production has a rough edge that fits the material naturally, giving the whole demo a rotten atmosphere that suits the horror-inspired themes perfectly. Even with the filthy sound, the riffs remain memorable enough to avoid turning into shapeless noise. There is a clear understanding of pacing throughout the material, and the band know when to speed things up and when to drag the listener through slower, suffocating sections.

Songs like “Boiled To Death” and “Irresponsive Cephalic Fracture” push the more savage side of the band, mixing frantic blasting with ugly riff patterns that stay in your head after the demo ends. “Bile Seeping Crypt” throws in a darker and more oppressive character, while “Buried Beneath Grubs” closes the release with a strong sense of decay and violence. Mangled Recrement avoid unnecessary technical showing off and focus on building a rotten atmosphere through riffs and aggression. That choice helps the demo stay memorable instead of becoming another forgettable old-school worship release.

There is enough variation between the songs to maintain interest, though some transitions and riff sections could use more refinement in the future. At times the songwriting leans heavily on familiar death metal formulas, especially for listeners deeply buried in the underground scene, though the sincerity behind the music makes up for some of that familiarity. Mangled Recrement sound like a band obsessed with death metal for the right reasons, and that spirit comes through clearly across the entire release.

“Demo” is a strong first step for Mangled Recrement and a promising sign for what this trio may unleash later on. Fans of rotten, primitive, and horror-filled death metal should easily find value here, especially anyone devoted to the darker side of the underground. People searching for modern production or flashy experimentation will probably walk away unimpressed, though death metal maniacs looking for filthy riff abuse and morbid atmosphere should absolutely give this cassette a chance.
