Transcontinental black metal project Eveale emerged in early 2025 as a secretive duo operating under the mystical alter egos of The Monarch Of The Hillside and The North East Wizard Tyrant. Seeking an unconstrained outlet for their extreme musical desires, they dropped a debut EP in May 2025 using anonymous physical plants at a major UK festival to spread their art. Now, backed by a session drummer known as The Basher At Things, the entity steps out of the shadows to unleash their full-length vision of nature, folklore, and fantasy.

The debut full-length “Enter The Woodland Realm” provides a strong, well-crafted journey into atmospheric and traditional black metal territories. The sonic landscape is built on a foundation of classic tremolo riffing and traditional blasting, but it incorporates interesting sonic textures like acoustic passages and unexpected folk instrumentation. It is a calculated and balanced approach to extreme metal, delivering epic grandeur alongside passages of bloodthirsty ferocity and introspective melancholy that accurately paint the picture of their fictional, mythic setting.

Songs like “Lament Of The Dryads” and “The Enemy” successfully bridge the gap between old-school black metal aggression and melodic sensibility. The guitar work provides a captivating sense of melodic dread, while the drumming provides a relentless driving force. The vocal delivery is savage and fits the overall cold atmosphere perfectly, while tracks like “Carniflora” and “The Ritual” maintain the momentum by injecting different tempos and varying degrees of aggression to keep the listener engaged.

The production on the record strikes a great balance, avoiding the pitfalls of over-production while remaining perfectly clear. Every instrument occupies its own space, allowing the intricate guitar melodies and the underlying bass lines to be heard without losing the essential dark atmosphere. The addition of guest clean vocals on “Our Flame” and unique ambient elements on “The Beckoning” add depth to the record, proving that the duo has a great handle on dynamics.

While the album is a highly entertaining ride for any fan of the genre, a few sections toward the final stretch are slightly predictable in their arrangement. Songs like “The Final Quest” and the title track “Enter The Woodland Realm” are great anthems, but they follow a familiar structure that doesn’t quite match the striking impact of the earlier material. Nevertheless, this is a highly impressive debut that deserves a spot in your rotation.
