Formed in Tampere, Finland, Torchia has spent years building a distinct name in extreme metal by fusing thrash-injected melodic death metal with dark fantasy and gothic horror. Over time, they have expanded a grim lyrical universe filled with ancient gods and occult themes. Their evolution has led them to a theatrical approach where guitar-driven aggression meets cinematic atmosphere, drawing heavily on classic heavy and power metal structures. Fronted by the masked vocalist Nox, they are recognized for a strong stage presence that mirrors the dark concepts found in their music.
The northern cold returns with "They Are Born Under Rules Of The Darkness", an injection of dark fantasy that hits with impressive force. This creation successfully merges fast death metal savagery with epic arrangements, creating a bleak, 19th-century gothic atmosphere.
The guitar work from Villemorte and Henri Von Hardy provides excellent tempo changes, mixing fast tempos with grand melodies. The production by Janne Saksa and the mastering by Dan Swanö ensure a completely flawless sound that balances raw aggression and structured arrangements perfectly, bringing to mind the dark energy of Behemoth and Cradle Of Filth.
Several compositions immediately grab attention for their balance of heavy riffs and symphonic elements. "Hellmouth" and "Hellstorm" deploy excellent, melodic structures that prompt immediate headbanging, while "Die Amour" and "Stygian Waters" display fantastic, dynamic changes. The rest of the material offers pure death metal speed, relying on rapid tempos and crushing execution. The storytelling is vivid, backed by the strong performance of Vulkan on bass and Vincent Oscar Mill on drums, making this a highly successful release for the modern death metal landscape.
