Dark Divination emerged from Finland, unleashing their debut full-length album "Liito Hengen Ja Veren" late last year, capturing the raw essence of mid-2000s Finnish black metal. Wampyric Rites hails from Ecuador, spearheaded by the prolific Wampyric Strigoi, a musician known for a relentless stream of underground projects. Both entities now converge on the underground label Signal Rex to unite their distinct regional brands of darkness on a collaborative release.
The strength of this split comes from how naturally the two bands fit together despite coming from opposite sides of the world. There is a shared obsession with ancient black metal values, dark atmosphere, foul riffcraft and devotion to underground identity. At the same time, each side maintains its own personality. Dark Divination attacks with freezing hostility, while Wampyric Rites leans deeper into occult mysticism and vampyric darkness. The contrast gives the release a stronger identity than many modern splits manage to achieve.
Dark Divination’s “Tainted By Hatred” walks straight into the kind of black metal many listeners will connect with the mid-2000s Finnish scene. The riffing is cold, bleak and soaked in that poisonous atmosphere that made that era so addictive. The slower passages give the track a ghostly presence, while the faster sections erupt with savage intensity and filthy aggression. The production stays rough enough to preserve the underground character, though the songwriting itself has enough structure to avoid becoming shapeless noise.
On the other side, Wampyric Rites deliver “Evil Spirit Of Varcolaci,” and the track immediately brings their signature occult aura. The synth work adds a mystical glow around the riffs without drowning the raw guitar tone underneath. There is a strong nocturnal spirit running through the song, driven by sinister melodies and a hypnotic pace that sinks deeper with each passing minute. Wampyric Strigoi once again proves why his name continues appearing across the underground black metal circuit with such frequency.
"Finnish Ecuador Alliance" is a successful bridge between northern and southern black metal realms. Both tracks offer high quality underground music, avoiding filler and proving that foul deeds unite distant shores. The release delivers exactly what black metal fanatics desire from a traditional split EP.
