Greek act Blossom Death came together in Varkiza, Athens back in 2018, founded by former Sorrowful Angels member Kostas “Corax” Katoikos alongside Marita Makaronidi and drummer Argy Deligianopoulos. After the “Mistaken” EP and the split release “Eon Must Fail” with In Burial, the band continued shaping a darker and more melodic direction, mixing gothic rock atmosphere with heavy metal drive. With “Spirit”, Blossom Death step into full-length territory and present a more ambitious side of their songwriting.

“Spirit” sits comfortably between gothic melancholy and traditional heavy rock structure, with enough metallic fire to avoid drifting too far into softer territory. The guitar work moves from emotional melodies to heavier bursts without sounding disconnected, while the vocal interplay

between Kostas and Marita gives the album an expressive character. There is a strong late-night aura around the whole release, the kind of album that fits rainy streets, cigarette smoke and dim city lights.

Songs like “Stone Kiss”, “Fallen” and “Morning After” bring a catchy side to the album without losing the darker edge Blossom Death are aiming for. The band focuses more on atmosphere and emotional tone than aggression, though there are still moments where the riffs add real force. “Solitude” and “Spirit Of Life” push deeper into melancholic territory and give the album some of its strongest passages, especially through the vocal arrangements and layered guitar melodies.

The material is not flawless. A few sections drift longer than needed and some transitions could have used more intensity. There are moments where the energy drops slightly, especially during the second half, and the album occasionally circles around similar ideas. Even so, Blossom Death avoids sounding flat, thanks to the emotional drive running through the songs and the solid chemistry between the musicians.

For a debut album, “Spirit” shows a band with a clear identity and a genuine connection to gothic heavy rock traditions. It balances darkness, melody and heaviness in a natural way, without sounding artificial or overloaded. Blossom Death may still have ground to cover in tightening their songwriting, though this release already gives enough reasons to keep an eye on their future path.
