Origin Norway
Musth formed in Norway in 2003 and built their name through a strange, restless take on alternative metal. After the EP "Diary Of A Lustful Turkey" in 2006, the band toured across Norway, shared stages with Animal Alpha and Miksha, and also reached outside their home country with a show at The Underworld in London. Their debut album "Noise
Machine" arrived in 2011 and gave them stronger ground in the Norwegian underground. Vocalist Alex Delver joined in 2016, opening a new chapter that led to "Under Nature’s Skirt" in 2022, and now Musth returns with "Jollysad", another crooked punch from a band allergic to normal behavior.
“Jollysad” is a strange, unsettling beast that leans into discomfort, excess, and the absurd. Lyrically, this creation explores a bizarre hereditary condition, manifesting through symptoms such as autoerotic fixation, “beautiful soul syndrome,” the neutralization of political rage into marketable content, and erectile dysfunction. It is a darkly satirical concept, blurring the line between critique and confession.
Musically, the approach defies conventional structures. The band merges the harmonic sincerity of early Julio Iglesias with a rhythmic aftermath of a car crash. This collision translates through jagged guitars, restless drumming, and a vocal performance that veers between theatrical anguish and feral intensity. The result walks a fine line between precision and collapse.
The release incorporates sampled dialogue from the cult 1976 Norwegian film Lasse & Geir on “Disposable Income In The Hands Of Teenagers,” adding tension and irony to the underlying themes of frustration, alienation, and domestic absurdity. Recorded at Phat Cat Studios in November 2025 with producer Sigve Bull, mixed by Adam Muñoz, and mastered by Magnus Gulbrandsen at Jelöy Sound Mastering, the production keeps the underground spirit intact. For those drawn to music that challenges, provokes, and refuses to sit comfortably within standard boundaries, this offers an intense, unpredictable experience.
