Lufeh is a progressive metal band from Los Angeles, CA, USA, led by drummer Lufeh Batera. The band mixes progressive rock, metal and jazz fusion, with Duca Tambasco on bass and backing vocals, Deio Tambasco on guitar and backing vocals, Gera Penna on keyboards and backing vocals, and Ginny Luke featured on vocals. After "Luggage Falling Down" in 2020, "Overwhelmed" is their second album and marks a clear step into more song-focused, vocal-based material.
"Overwhelmed" is a strong progressive rock album, full of skill, emotion and smart writing. Lufeh do not bury the listener under endless technical games, which is a good call. The songs have complex parts, odd rhythms, heavy passages and fusion touches, yet the main focus stays on melody and flow. That is where the album wins most of its points.
The playing is at a high level across the album. The drums are active and precise, the bass has character, the guitars bring enough force, and the keyboards add color without turning everything into prog soup. Ginny Luke gives the album a brighter and more human face, especially through her vocal lines, which make the choruses easier to remember. Songs like "He Commands The Sun And The Stars", "Overwhelmed", "Feels Like I’m A Ghost" and "Live The New Today" show a band aiming for detail, emotion and strong hooks at the same time.
The album is not perfect. Some parts are very clean and arranged in a way that may sound too safe for listeners who want more danger from progressive music. A few melodic ideas also come close to the usual modern prog path, so not every moment surprises. Even so, the songwriting is mature, the performances are strong, and the album has enough character to avoid sounding like another copy of the usual names in the style.
"Overwhelmed" is a very good release from a band with real musical knowledge and taste. It is technical, melodic, emotional and heavy when needed, with songs that have shape and direction. Lufeh sounds focused here, and the result is a progressive metal album that deserves attention from listeners who want skill with actual songs behind it.
