Daniel Gazzoli Project is the creation of Mantua multi instrumentalist Daniel Gazzoli, who handles guitars, bass, drums, arrangements and backing vocals. Giacomo Rossi takes the lead vocal role, joined by Massimiliano Sabbadini on keyboards and Hammond. The project began with “Night Hunter”, an album built around American and Northern European AOR, pomp rock and hard rock influences. “Stranger In My Own Town” continues along the same route, drawing heavily from 1980s melodic rock through prominent keyboards, melodic guitar lines and chorus focused songwriting. Gazzoli’s broad involvement gives the project a unified musical direction, while Rossi provides the vocal personality needed to separate it from a one man studio exercise.

Produced, mixed and mastered by Davide Rossi, “Stranger In My Own Town” has a bright, detailed production that places the vocals and keyboards near the front. Songs such as “The Place Of My Heart”, “Blackheart” and “Higher Than Stars” offer catchy refrains, controlled guitar work and an obvious respect for classic AOR structure. Giacomo Rossi sings with range and discipline, especially during the more melodic passages, while Gazzoli’s guitar playing favours song construction over extended soloing. “April” introduces a sweeter direction that may test listeners who prefer the harder side of the album, and the middle section loses some urgency through similar tempos and chorus patterns. “Dawn For A Dreamer” and “I Will Carry On” add a more expansive character, although their length exposes ideas that could have used tighter editing. This is competent melodic hard rock with good performances and several effective choruses, held back by cautious writing and a production style that leaves little roughness around the edges.
