Feralia emerged from the Italian underground with a vision rooted in black metal that draws heavily from ancient spirituality, esoteric traditions and pre-Christian imagery. Across previous albums such as "Helios Manifesto" and "Under Stige/Over Dianam", the band established a character distinct from the Scandinavian blueprint, focusing on Roman antiquity, occult symbolism and meditative structures. The quartet of Raijinous, Erymanthon Seth, Krhura and Summum Algor continues down that path on "Ultima Requies", expanding themes that have accompanied the band since its inception. Their fascination with forgotten rites, death cults and sacred mysteries is not treated as decorative mythology. It forms the foundation of the band's artistic direction and shapes the atmosphere surrounding every release. Feralia has never operated within the fashionable corners of black metal, and their work remains detached from trends, contemporary aesthetics and audience expectations. Their music is centered on immersion, contemplation and the exploration of subjects that sit far outside everyday experience.

"Ultima Requies" presents seven lengthy compositions that unfold with patience and intent. Feralia favor layered guitar work, austere melodies and repetitive patterns that gradually reveal details over extended durations. The production refuses modern excess. Guitars possess a rough texture, drums retain an organic character and the synthesizers are woven into the music as part of the atmosphere instead of functioning as decorative additions. Vocals emerge from within the mix like distant invocations, contributing to the album's ceremonial character.

Lyrically and conceptually, the material revolves around death, transition and forbidden knowledge through the lens of ancient Roman culture. The artwork, inspired by the Thessalian witch Erichto from Lucan’s "De Bello Civili", matches the music perfectly, steeped in graveyard imagery and forbidden knowledge. Feralia approaches these subjects with commitment and depth, avoiding superficial occult imagery in favor of something more rooted in historical and mythological sources.

Feralia constructs long-form songs that unfold gradually, rewarding patience and concentration. The riffs are not designed around immediate hooks. They emerge through accumulation, with recurring motifs taking on greater significance as the songs progress. This approach creates a hypnotic quality that suits the album's themes. At the same time, some passages linger longer than necessary and a few sections circle around similar ideas before reaching their destination. Those moments do not derail the experience, though they occasionally reduce the impact of the strongest passages.

What separates "Ultima Requies" from many contemporary black metal releases is its commitment to a singular vision. There is no attempt to chase accessibility, cinematic grandeur or exaggerated extremity. Feralia remain focused on atmosphere, symbolism and gradual development. The music often evokes ancient ceremonies and forgotten landscapes without resorting to theatrical excess. The balance between aggression and contemplation gives the album a distinctive character, allowing the more reflective passages to coexist with moments of intensity. The result is immersive and rewarding, particularly for listeners drawn to black metal that prioritizes atmosphere and spiritual depth over immediacy.
