Vessel Of Light began in 2017 when guitarist Dan Lorenzo joined vocalist Nathan Opposition for a new project built around low tuned riffs, dark melodies and a stripped down approach to doom rooted heavy metal. Their writing started through exchanged guitar ideas and lyric drafts before the pair entered Brainchild Studios in Cleveland during the summer of that year. The first sessions produced six songs and established the basic design of the project, Lorenzo working through blunt riff cycles and blues stained chord movement, Opposition answering with a deep vocal register and language centered on death, decay, isolation and damaged human instincts. The partnership soon continued beyond the debut, leading to later albums such as "Woodshed", "Thy Serpent Rise" and "Last Ride".
Those releases expanded the scale of Vessel Of Light, though the original material remained difficult to obtain outside Europe after a small label issue. NoLifeTilMetal Records has now rebuilt that early release as a full length edition with four bonus songs, fresh packaging, lyrics, photographs and liner notes. It also marks the first vinyl edition, limited to 200 transparent copies with a two sided insert. More than an archival reprint, this edition places the project's first chapter in proper sequence and shows where its central traits began, compact guitar figures, bleak vocal phrasing, doom pacing and an interest in physical, personal forms of darkness.
The self titled album is built around Lorenzo's compact riffing and Opposition's low, worn delivery. The guitar tone is coarse and dry, with enough low end to make the slower passages hit without turning the mix into fog. Rob Colwell's remaster gives the drums and bass greater separation than the earlier issue, and the added definition lets cymbal accents, bass movement and guitar decay register with greater precision. The vocal placement remains forward, preserving the uncomfortable closeness of Opposition's performance. The production does not reshape the 2017 sessions into a modern studio product. It preserves the blunt edges, uneven dynamics and almost demo like urgency at the source.
That choice matters, since the music depends on friction between the simple riff structures and Opposition's grave, drawn out lines. His lyrics stay close to bodily ruin, mortality, spiritual collapse and private damage. Grand fantasy language has little place here. The images are physical, bleak and immediate, giving "Dead Flesh And Bone", "Descend Into Death" and "Living Dead To The World" a human sickness beneath their doom framework. The title song moves the voice into a more haunted register, while the surrounding songs use groove, downward motion and short melodic turns to maintain tension.
Across the original six songs, the narrow tempo range and related riff shapes cause sections to merge in memory. Several transitions arrive with little surprise, and the writing had not reached the broader scale heard on later Vessel Of Light albums. The compact length limits that problem, leaving a concise set whose best passages come from the chemistry between Lorenzo's blunt guitar language and Opposition's solemn presence. The four additions widen the picture. "Torture King", "Meet And Bone" and "Son Of Man" offer a broader attack and more developed arrangements, making the growth after the debut easy to hear.
The closing cover, "Wasp/Behind The Wall Of Sleep", respects the original form while adding enough vocal phrasing and guitar character to escape plain imitation. As a complete edition, this release has a practical reason to exist. The remaster gives the early material firmer definition, the bonus songs add useful context, and the vinyl treatment offers a proper physical version after years of limited access. The debut itself has rough seams and a restricted songwriting range, alongside several gripping riffs and a vocal performance that gives the darker language an unsettling face. It captures Vessel Of Light at the beginning, raw, compact and already capable of turning simple parts into oppressive heavy music.
