Megascavenger is a Swedish death metal band formed by Rogga Johansson, a musician linked with Paganizer, Ribspreader, Putrevore, Bloodgut and numerous other projects. The band first appeared in 2012 with “Descent Of Yuggoth” and built its name through old school Swedish death metal shaped around low guitar tones, graveyard melodies and guest vocal appearances. “Toxic Noxious Undeath” arrives six years after “Songs In The Key Of Madness”, with Johansson on guitars, Johan Berglund on bass and Thomas Ohlsson on drums.
The vocal department changes across every song, bringing in Kam Lee, Felix Stass, Erik Rundqvist, Max Otero, Dave Ingram, Michael H. Andersen, Jan Bergmann Jepsen, Silvester Koorevaar, Dave Rotten and Peter Svensson. This approach has been part of Megascavenger since the early releases, turning each album into a meeting point for singers from different corners of European and American death metal.
“Toxic Noxious Undeath” contains ten songs and runs for forty minutes. Johan Berglund handled the mixing and mastering at Studio Ulgnor, giving the guitars a low, corroded tone while the bass remains present beneath the riffs. Thomas Ohlsson’s drumming stays focused on steady death metal rhythms, double bass passages and blunt transitions. The production has depth without burying the melodies, especially during “A World Of Fire And Brimstone”, where darker guitar lines and lead work bring a colder shade into the album.
The guest vocal format also brings noticeable changes in texture, ranging from Kam Lee’s cavernous delivery on “Graveyard Dreams And Bonehouse Screams” to Dave Rotten’s guttural performance on “Shallow Grave Overflow”. The album is built from traditional death metal riffs, crawling melodies and compact song structures. “Graveyard Dreams And Bonehouse Screams” opens with one of the album’s most immediate guitar patterns, followed by a chorus that stays in the head after a single spin. “Corpses Below” and “Exploding Casket Syndrome” continue with blunt rhythmic turns and short melodic breaks, while “Heading For The Furnace” adds a faster attack.
The middle section slows the pace and brings more atmosphere, with “A World Of Fire And Brimstone” and “Fleshburner Yearner” using darker leads and heavier bass movement. The songwriting remains inside a narrow old school death metal area, with little interest in outside influences. The riffs are carefully placed, the drums stay active, and the production preserves enough rawness without reducing the songs to noise. “Toxic Noxious Undeath” is a focused return from Megascavenger, filled with rotten melodies, graveyard imagery and death metal written with discipline.
