Lord emerged from Hazebrouck in 1993, when French black metal was developing beyond the Norwegian model and producing its own regional character. Founded by Lord Charon, the band introduced its early sound through the 1995 “Lord” demo, joining cold keyboard lines, tremolo guitars, distant vocals and the best possible production back in the day. Countess Hoggsogoth became a central presence on guitars, and keyboards, helping shape “Behind The Curtain Of Darkness” in 1998. That album placed symphonic darkness beside long compositions and a cryptic atmosphere, far removed from the ornate direction later associated with the style.

By “Hell’s Fucking Metal” in 2003, the keyboards had largely disappeared and the music had shifted toward black/thrash metal, shorter songwriting and a raw traditional attack. The 2005 EP “Black Moon Preacher” continued that direction before Lord became inactive. The band remained obscure outside underground circles, though its output presents a distinct link between early French symphonic black metal and the primitive black/thrash current of the following decade.

“Les Rites De Passage” has sixteen tracks made between 1995 and 2005, with remastering completed at cult, legendary Studio 5 in Greece. The compilation lasts almost eighty minutes and exposes a major transformation across one disc, moving from spectral keyboards and elongated guitar themes toward blunt riffs, rasped vocals and thrash-based tempo changes. The remaster adds definition and volume without scrubbing away the age of the source tapes. Early drums remain thin in places, several guitar layers merge into one another, and the changes between eras can be abrupt. Those flaws also reveal how Lord developed, since this is archival material drawn from demos, albums and an EP, not a newly unified studio release.

The first era has an eerie, ceremonial character; the later songs trade that atmosphere for speed, compact structures and a stronger physical attack. Satanism, war, death and metal dominate the lyrics, presented through graveyard imagery, blasphemy and old underground excess. Some ideas stretch longer than required, especially across the earlier compositions, though the riff writing and bleak keyboard work justify most of their duration. This anthology is a substantial recovery of a neglected French band, assembled with care and enough sonic improvement to make the music hit harder without rewriting its original character.
