Sinner began in Stuttgart in 1982 around bassist, vocalist and songwriter Mat Sinner, whose other major band is Primal Fear. Across more than four decades, Sinner built a long discography at the meeting point of German heavy metal and melodic hard rock, with a sound centered on twin guitars, firm rhythms and large choruses. During the 1980s, albums such as "Comin' Out Fighting" placed the band firmly in the European metal circuit, where aggressive riffing and accessible refrains became its basic language. Later releases shifted between harder metal and straight hard rock, allowing Sinner to reach listeners from several corners of the scene. Lineups changed across the years, while Mat Sinner remained the central musician and writer.
The band toured widely, released nineteen studio albums before this one, and reached number twelve on the German chart with "Brotherhood" in 2022. Guitarists Alex Scholpp and Jim Müller, drummer Moritz Müller and keyboardist Lisa Müller appear here, alongside former Sinner guitarist Mathias Dieth and Primal Fear partner Magnus Karlsson. Guest singers include Ronnie Romero, Michael Bormann, Michael Sadler, Björn "Speed" Strid, Erik Mårtensson, Renan Zonta and Sascha Krebs. "Boom Bang Goodbye" closes the band's career after forty four years, leaving a sizeable body of hard rock and metal behind it.
Across eleven songs, "Boom Bang Goodbye" mixes melodic heavy metal, hard rock and arena sized choruses in a compact farewell album that looks ahead more often than it looks backward. Mat Sinner and Alex Scholpp handle production, and Jacob Hansen's mix and mastering place the guitars high, the drums forward, the bass present and the vocals at full scale, with keyboards adding depth behind the riffs. The guitars alternate sturdy chord work with melodic leads, the rhythm section stays energetic, and the choruses arrive fast, giving the album the physical charge expected from Sinner without burying the human side of the performances.
Several verse and chorus turns are easy to predict, and a few refrains chase the same broad anthem, so surprise is not the main attraction. Careful pacing and concise arrangements stop those habits from dragging the album down. The rotating singers bring distinct colors: Ronnie Romero adds heat, Michael Sadler brings dramatic poise, Björn "Speed" Strid adds a harder edge, and Erik Mårtensson brings melodic precision, while the remaining guests maintain the album's varied vocal character.
That variety also breaks the vocal continuity, making parts of the album resemble a guest celebration more than a single band performance, though Mat Sinner's writing and bass presence hold the material together."Boom Bang Goodbye" ends Sinner with strong hooks, committed performances and enough metal in its blood to stop the farewell from becoming sentimental ceremony, closing a long career in a burst of fire and no self pity.
