Noveria is an Italian progressive power metal band formed in Rome, with a sound shaped by progressive structures, power metal melodies, modern heaviness and cinematic arrangements. Across its career, the band has moved toward increasingly elaborate compositions, combining keyboards, orchestral elements and technical guitar work with a strong vocal presence. The current lineup features Francesco Marino on vocals, Francesco Mattei on guitar, Paolo Campitelli on keyboards, Andrea Arcangeli on bass and Paolo Conte on drums. “Becoming After” is the band’s fifth full length release and arrives with a renewed lineup, while the production duties remain in the hands of Francesco Mattei, who produced, mixed and mastered the album at Underworld Studio.
The guest appearances also add an extra layer to the lineup, with pianist and composer Mike Moran appearing on “Through Your Light”, Mistheria contributing keyboards to “Cold Flames”, and violinist Abigail Stahlschmidt and cellist Luca Basile providing real string performances. The result places Noveria firmly in the modern European progressive power metal field, with clear links to the grand scale associated with bands such as Dream Theater, Symphony X, Kamelot, and Evergrey.
“Becoming After” runs for just under fifty four minutes and presents a polished production where guitars, keyboards, drums, vocals and orchestral parts are given substantial presence. The music shifts between progressive metal complexity, power metal melody and heavier contemporary guitar tones, while the cinematic arrangements add another layer to the compositions. Francesco Marino handles the vocal duties with a wide range, moving from controlled melodic singing to more intense delivery when the arrangements become heavier. The lyrical material deals with struggle, survival, scars, personal transformation and emotional confrontation, which gives the album a darker atmosphere compared with a straightforward power metal release.
Tracks such as “The Only Way”, “Convicted To Rise”, “Echoes From The Abyss” and “Cold Flames” establish the general direction through extended arrangements, layered keyboards and large vocal sections, while “The Viper's Nest”, “Through Your Light”, “Heavenfall” and “Radiance” continue that approach with different combinations of orchestration and progressive passages. The production gives the album a modern presentation, although the amount of detail can occasionally make the arrangements seem more calculated than spontaneous.
There is a lot happening across the compositions, and some sections rely heavily on familiar progressive metal formulas, particularly when the keyboards and orchestration take over the melodic focus. The musicianship is high throughout, and the album has enough variation between guitar work, atmospheric keyboards, orchestral colour and melodic vocals to maintain. “Becoming After” is an ambitious and carefully arranged progressive-power metal release, with a cinematic direction that adds substance to the material while retaining the core metal sound of Noveria.
