Origin Sweden
Totalitär is a Swedish hardcore punk band formed in Hudiksvall in 1985, with more than four decades of activity in the underground. The band became closely associated with Swedish D-beat, combining fast rhythms, aggressive guitar work and politically charged lyrics. Releases such as "Multinationella Mördare", "Luftslott", "Vänd Dig Inte Om", "Sin Egen Motståndare" and "Vi Är Eliten" established Totalitär as an important name within the Swedish hardcore scene. The lineup on "Totalitär" features Poffen on vocals, Lanchy on guitar, Andreas on bass and Jallo on drums.
"Totalitär" arrives twenty years after "Vi Är Eliten", with nine songs focused on social conflict, political frustration, war, repression and opposition to power. The production stays close to the raw Swedish D-beat tradition, with fast drumming, abrasive guitar riffs, bass underneath the attack and forceful vocals pushing the lyrics forward. The songs are compact and economical, with little interest in decoration or unnecessary detours. The material has the blunt character expected from hardcore punk, while the Swedish lyrics give the album a strong local hardcore connection. "Totalitär" is a focused comeback from a band whose approach remains firmly rooted in hardcore punk, with the music presented in a straightforward and uncompromising form.
