Laconist are a Brazilian brutal death metal band formed in 2007 by A. Neil, originally created around the influence of extreme acts such as Angelcorpse, Centurian, and Hate Eternal. The band released two full length albums, a demo, and an EP before going on hiatus in 2016. Ten years later, A. Neil returns as the only original member, joined by Zé Misanthrope on vocals, with Felipe Veiga handling drums for the new recording. The current lineup presents Laconist as a compact unit focused entirely on brutal death metal, with the new EP marking their return to active work. The band is currently independent and is also preparing material for a forthcoming full length release.
"Where Being Ends, I Begin"may be a laconic and concentrated attack, built from fast riffing, crushing rhythmic sections, deep extreme vocals, and a production aimed at maximum impact. The recording was made between October 2025 and April 2026, mixed by Zé Misanthrope at Less Than Zero Studios and Waterpark, and then mastered by Cássio Zambotto. The sound has the density expected from brutal death metal, with the guitars and drums pushing the material forward while the vocals sit firmly over the arrangements. "Vermiforming" also features guest vocals from Kyle Ball of Lysergic, formerly of Kataplexis and Wake.
Across its three tracks, the EP stays focused on uncompromising extremity, with enough variation in the riffs and rhythmic shifts to prevent the short running time from becoming monotonous. The songwriting is concise, aggressive, and technically controlled, with no wasted material added to stretch the release. "Where Being Ends, I Begin" is a strong return from Laconist, delivering a focused dose of Brazilian brutal death metal with a production that gives the music the required impact.
