Gallowglass Scourge is a melodic death metal band from Minneapolis, Minnesota, formed by Matt Hamilton and Tom Croxton, both associated with the thrash and progressive metal band Domidium. Their debut, "Silence", appeared in 2022, followed by "Carrion", their second full length release. The band's sound draws from melodic death metal with dark atmospheres, prominent guitar melodies, forceful vocals, and heavy rhythmic sections, with Amorphis, Insomnium, and Paradise Lost among the cited influences.
"Carrion" presents a dark melodic death metal approach with guitar melodies taking a central role alongside aggressive vocals and imposing rhythmic arrangements. The production was handled by the band, with drums recorded and mixed by Zach Letourneau at 14:59 Studios and mastering by Adam Tucker of Signaturetone.
The sound gives the album a defined balance between melodic guitar work and heavier passages, while the darker atmosphere remains present throughout. In its ten tracks, "Carrion" maintains a focused direction and avoids unnecessary detours, resulting in a second release that presents Gallowglass Scourge as a band firmly rooted in melodic death metal.
