Cales is the underground project of Czech musician Petr “Blackosh” Hošek, a name connected with several important chapters of the extreme metal underground. He was a member of Master’s Hammer, contributed to Swedish black metal act Nifelheim, and served as a riff writer for Root. With “Unexplored Territories”, Cales presents a new chapter of his epic-black metal work, built through a combination of guitars, vocals and programming. The material was written, recorded, mixed and mastered at Descent Studios between 2023 and 2026, with Hošek handling production.
“Unexplored Territories” is a seven track release lasting close to thirty three minutes, moving through epic black metal with a strong sense of atmosphere and dark fantasy. The guitars provide the main musical force, shifting between forceful riffing, melodic passages and colder black metal textures, while the vocals add a grim edge to the overall sound. The production has a raw underground quality, with enough separation to follow the main elements and a tone that suits the style.
Songs such as “Realm Of Ravines”, “Return From The Underworld” and “Hailed By The Ancients” present the material in different shades, from darker passages to more melodic sections. The songwriting remains compact and avoids unnecessary detours, with the shorter songs helping the release move at a steady pace. “Unexplored Territories” is a focused piece of epic-black metal, combining old school darkness with melodic ideas and a distinctly Czech underground spirit.
